La Nuit n'est pas un Chocolat
Paradiso Amsterdam, 22 June 2002.
Stage door at Paradiso, the audience was welcomed by Gijs Muller, Your Newest Friend. Down the stairs to the dressing rooms; a chocolate or non-chocolate drink, cloakroom, hairdressers, make-up artists and a small clothing-shop. Then up the stairs to the stage.
Stationed at different points across the entire hall musicians performed a spatial composition. Fragments of classical and ethereal harmonies flowed together in a lively soundscape. Around midnight a groovy band took over and transformed the music, preparing the audience for DJ Zash. Amid the audience, dancers performed small choreographies. Light artist Govinda Mens created natural phenomena. In the middle of the hall, two large custom-made staircases gave access to the small auditorium where chef Koen van Brunschot prepared various dishes. In the hall downstairs Bart Groenendaal had designed a video installation with large church benches. All night long, the club night in the hall was interspersed with numerous performances by percussionists, dancers and Scandinavian singers. Dawn broke, bringing coffee and breakfast.
